Spirit Week

Dear School Families,
Spirit Week is coming soon!
This year Spirit Week will be during the week of 28th March - 1stApril.
Spirit Week is a time for us to increase our school spirit by dressing up.
Each day of the week has a theme.

Please see the Prep blog for their plans for Monday and Tuesday

The days this year are:

Monday – PJ Day
Wear warm night clothes.

Tuesday – Twin Day/Triplet Day
2 or more people dress up in the same clothing. Whole classes could dress the same.

Wednesday – Sports Team Day
Dress up in your favorite sports team  or school team colors,  lions shirts, jerseys or sweat shirts.  On Wednesday at morning recess we will have a fashion show.

Thursday – Dress up as you Want Day
You can dress up in your best clothes, as a clown, Superman, or anything else you can think of!

Friday – Career Day
Dress up as what you would like to be / a job that you think is cool.

Please encourage your child/children to participate in Spirit week!

Best regards,
Student Council

German News from the Intermediate group

Geolino magazines, the Quiesel book series and books by Janosch have become increasingly popular during free reading. Students have written book recommendations which will include a picture of them with their favorite book. Several students have written their own stories and shared them with the class.

We watched a film adaptation of the fairy tale "Frau Holle," during which students wrote a summary of the action. In groups, students collaborated on short sketches or other representations of the fairy tale. Feedback showed that students understood most of the film's content and worked well together in groups.

Recently students have been creating stories together based on vocabulary from the Deutschmobil textbook. In the current story, a girl wakes up and opens the window to see a koala bear eating chocolate. She packs her own bags full of chocolate before the telephone rings... (to be continued)

Students have enjoyed making decisions to change the plot of the interactive story "Tom und das Erdbeermarmaladenbrot." These and other adventures are available for viewing on kindernetz.de.

Best Regards,
Herr Neas

Water Campaign

The water campaign for this year has ended very successfully. The final total was 3000 euros. We'd like to congratulate all fourth graders for their hard work and dedication. Class 4.1 donated 750 euros. Well done 4.1! Because of the great efforts of our fourth graders, many people will have access to clean water.

We have been having technical difficulties with the uploading of the videos we made of the water presentations. We hope to be able to publish them soon. I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing holiday.

News from the German Beginners

Dear Parents,
In our last unit in the Beginners class we learned about our homes.
The following activities helped develop our vocabulary in German
and gave us more confidence in listening, speaking, reading and writing:

  • Designing and decorating a living room
  • Making a collage of different types of furniture
  • Reading about different homes and apartments
  • Informing ourselves about a SOS Kinderdorf in Österreich
  • Playing partner games with pictures of household items and furniture
  • Sharing about our own homes
  • Reading simple books of our choice
  • Completing the unit writing assessment

We have also started using Storybird.com, a story writing program.
The children choose the illustrations and write their own text in German.
We began by writing stories with a partner, but now some children are being
risk-takers and writing on their own. We will be publishing our books
soon which will allow others to read our books!

As always, if you have any questions about your child´s progress,
please drop by between 15:40-16:00 or make an appointment.
Have a pleasant and safe week.

Sincerely,

Frau Scherpel

Our math day was very successful, with positive feedback from parents who were able to attend. Thank you for joining us. I hope the short session in our math class helped you to understand your child's math thinking.

German News - Frau Winkelmann - Intermediate2/Advanced

Dear Parents, liebe Eltern,

At the beginning of the year we presented our animal projects to the class.

After that we started our third unit about the Neanderthal people who lived 20 000 years ago.
We learned another past tense, the Präteritum.
Last week we started our fourth unit about health.

We reviewed the conjugation of "sein"
and created our own raps.

Below is a short movie of our class rap. Enjoy!

Liebe Grüße
A. Winkelmann

Informationen für unsere Eltern

Deutsch Native 4      Frau Thielmann
